Yoga Instruction

Yoga for Moms addresses the special concerns of women during the transitional time soon after birth. The class confronts a wide range of issues in a holistic way—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Students learn about themselves, their changing bodies and how to deal with the demands of motherhood. Focus is given to nurturing the bond between parent and baby. Dads are welcome too.    

Group lesson
$60 (up to 6 adults)
  as low as $10 per person
$220 for 4 lessons
$400 for 8 lessons


For larger groups a pricing plan will be developed based upon location and lesson quantity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I Bring?
Moms are welcome to bring thier babies and/or their partners or come alone. Bring a yoga mat, an empty stomach and wear comfortable clothes—but sweats are not recommended.

Am I ready?
Please come to class following 2 months of rest after childbirth. This class is appropriate for mothers of all ages at all levels of yoga experience—or none at all.

How long is the class?
75 minutes (1 hr and 15 minutes of savasana)

Where is the class?
The class is taught in a retreat-like setting in the hills of Sonoma.

What happens if my baby cries during class?
Please feel comfortable to nurse the baby during class or walk around the room as needed.

Does Maki only teach parent classes?
Maki works with individuals of any age and small groups without children also.

Precaution:
Please advise Maki before class if you have any significant health problems, or if you are pregnant or menstruating. She may suggest alternate poses.

 

About Maki Gilman
Maki began her Iyengar Yoga studies in 1997. She began teaching Yoga for Moms after her son was born in the spring of 2004. Throughout her birthing experience, Maki found inspiration in how yoga increased awareness between her mind, body and spirit. Maki has been especially touched by how moms benefit from the meditative aspects of yoga.
